Giving to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety

Every thirteen minutes another life is lost on our roads. The impact of traffic crashes is felt by every person and every family, in every state across our country. Each year, more than 33,000 lives are lost and 3,000,000 injuries are sustained, all at an economic cost of more than $230 billion.

About the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety is dedicated to saving lives and reducing injuries on the roads.  It is a not-for-profit, publicly-supported charitable educational andresearch organization. Since 1947, the Foundation has funded over 200 projects designed to discover the causes of traffic crashes, prevent them, and minimize injuries when they do occur. We have used this research to develop dozens of focused, high-impact educational materials for drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists and other road users.

Safety Culture

Although the Foundation has historically been devoted exclusively to the pursuit of improved traffic safety, working to develop a stronger safety culture at the societal level represents a new path for the Foundation and the traffic safety community at large.  Presently, key stakeholders, drivers, and society in general remain complacent to the annual toll of motor vehicle crashes on American society. Many experts believe this toll could be reduced substantially, perhaps by as much as 50 percent, if only the United States had the collective will to implement a handful of proven effective countermeasures.
