Futures Workshop Report Available Soon

To gain insight into what long-term, big picture traffic safety issues should be considered in the development of a long-term research agenda, the AAA Foundation, with co-sponsorship from the Federal Highway Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, hosted a high-level workshop this past October. An interdisciplinary expert panel, comprising roughly 40 top experts in various disciplines of traffic safety research, participated in a two-day workshop held at the AAA National office in Washington, DC.

The panel discussed salient traffic safety research needs within three tracks: human factors, vehicles, and highway infrastructure, in the context of persisting traffic safety issues and emerging trends that are likely to influence future research needs. The proceedings of the workshop will be published towards the end of this month and made available to the entire traffic safety research community. Visit www.aaafoundation.org to obtain a copy. The findings will be used to guide the Foundation in identifying specific program areas in which to focus future research efforts.
