As we move into the summer - the most dangerous time for novice drivers -
the AAA Foundation is finishing work on several teen safety projects. In June we held a press conference at the National Press Club in support of our "Reducing Teen Crashes" report that examines the efficacy of GDL restrictions. It compares teens that have remained crash free to teens that have had a crash. Shortly, we will publish new "Guidelines to Evaluate Driver Education" and later in the year our "Nationwide Evaluation of GDL Systems" will be released.

I am also pleased to report that the AAA Foundation’s newly upgraded interactive risk-management DVD for teens, Driver-ZED™, has been extremely well received. In fact, so much so that we’re in our second duplication of the product in order to meet the high demand. If anyone is interesting in partnering with us to disseminate ZED,

Meanwhile, we remain extremely busy managing over 20 projects, tackling a wide
range of issues, including road safety, efficacy of child seats, impaired driving, risky driving, Latino safety, and senior safety & mobility. As always, a summary of our active projects can be found on our website and
copies of all completed reports can be downloaded for free. Some of these
efforts are highlighted throughout this newsletter.

AAA Foundation Selects Four Focus Areas

The AAA Foundation’s Research and Development Advisory Committee approved four Long Term Program Areas – Driver Education & Training, Senior Safety & Mobility, usRAP - Road Safety, and Safety Culture. Priority will be given to these new focus areas when selecting future
research and education projects. For those interested, check out our FY 2007

Consider Donating to the AAA Foundation… This September, many organizations will offer their employees the opportunity to select the organizations they want to support through United Way and other payroll deduction programs. If you participate in such a program where you work, you may be able to designate part or all of your contribution to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. To find out how, just ask the person who administers your program. As a 501 (c)3, all contributions to the Foundation are fully tax deductible.
