Futures Workshop Report Now Available

To gain insight into what long-term, big picture traffic safety issues should be considered in the development of a long-term research agenda, the AAA Foundation, with co-sponsorship from the Federal Highway Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, hosted a high-level workshop this past October. An interdisciplinary expert panel, comprising roughly 40 top experts in various disciplines of traffic safety research, participated in a two-day workshop held at the AAA National office in Washington, DC.

The panel discussed salient traffic safety research needs within three tracks: human factors, vehicles, and highway infrastructure, in the context of persisting traffic safety issues and emerging trends that are likely to influence future research needs. The proceedings of the workshop are available at www.aaafoundation.org.

Workshop findings were used at the February Research and Development Advisory Committee meeting to identify several specific program areas in which to focus future research efforts.
