trafficSTATS™ Online Risk Calculator Now Available

AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety's TrafficSTATS - an interactive, Web-based tool that enables users to calculate relative risks associated with various modes of transportation. In its calculations, the tool also factors in demographic variables, vehicle types and environmental characteristics.

"We commissioned researchers at Carnegie Mellon University to develop this product as a result of our longstanding desire to improve access to national crash data and facilitate calculation of risk information," said Foundation President and CEO Peter Kissinger. "We believe trafficSTATS will be extremely helpful to the research community, media and, eventually, general public.

"Additional analyses of crash data and crash risks will lead to a deeper understanding of traffic safety problems and issues, less complacency and ultimately real-world improvements in our traffic safety culture," he added.
The tool can be found at www.aaafoundation.org/trafficSTATS. Enhancements to the tool are planned, and users are encouraged to provide feedback.
