President's Corner (continued)
Clearly, this is a lot of work left to do. We plan on conducting additional analyses of the recent survey and after refining the survey instrument, redoing the survey later this year. We hope to release Traffic Safety Culture Index findings each year to track progress over time. We also are initiating other research to provide additional insights into how to better measure “safety culture” and how motorists perceive risks and make decisions. Our hope is that we will find new ways to get motorists to alter their driving behaviors and get more engaged in the issue to demand more from our elected officials.
We’ve been encouraged by the compliments we’ve received for starting this effort and pleased to see “safety culture” discussed at various national forums the past several months. Hopefully, we can get and keep you engaged in this effort.
Finally, I would like to remind you that our research and education efforts are made possible through voluntary contributions we receive from individuals like you. And, as we expand our efforts, we need your support more than ever. Your tax-deductible contribution will help us save lives through research and education.
Yours truly,
