Cell Phones Also Save Lives

Cell Phones Also Save Lives

You needn't chat in your car to benefit from having a cell phone on hand. If you have an old cell phone that is no longer in service, charge it up and keep it in your car for emergencies. The Federal Communications Commission requires that any cellular phone must be able to call 911, even if there is no active service. That means you can call 911 from any cell phone, even if it has no number installed and is not served by any wireless carrier. And if you have any other old cell phones lying around the house, you can donate them to help victims of domestic violence through the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association's "Call to Protect" program. The used cell phones are refurbished and given to individuals in abusive relationships so they can call 911 when necessary.
