2009 Traffic Safety Culture Index

Released in August, the AAA Foundation’s second annual Traffic Safety Culture Index found more Traffic Safety Culture than a third of respondents – 35 percent – now feel less safe behind the wheel than they did five years ago, with distracted driving the primary cause. A majority of drivers – 80% – said distracted driving is a serious threat to their safety, but 67 percent of drivers also reported talking on a cell phone while driving. Like the inaugural TSC Index survey conducted last year, the 2009 Index investigated the public’s knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and experiences related to traffic safety.
