Educational Campaign on Run-off-Road Crashes

In partnership with the AAA Foundation and Roadway Safety Foundation, the South Carolina Department of Transportation launched a campaign in August aimed at reducing the number of crashes involving running off the road. Such incidents were part of more than half of all South Carolina fatal crashes from 2004 to 2008. Research shows one of the most cost-effective measures to preventing such crashes is rumble strips, or raised or grooved patterns in pavement. The campaign included the development of local and national TV public-service announcements and educational DVDs that discuss how to recover when running off the road. View the national PSA below:
