Use of Advanced In-Vehicle Technology by Younger and Older Drivers
Though 78 percent of older drivers in a recent AAA Foundation study indicated they take at least one medication, only 28 percent were aware of potential affects they can have on driving. The study, performed by the University of Alabama at Birmingham, also found that just eighteen percent said a heath care professional warned them about potential driver impairments. Survey respondents totaled 630, with an average age of 70.4 years. Other studies have shown the number of adults using multiple medications is increasing, and with the population of drivers ages 55 and older expected to increase more than 50 percent by 2030 this is an issue that must be addressed.
