Educational Campaign on Run-off-Road Crashes

In partnership with the AAA Foundation and Roadway Safety Foundation, the South Carolina Department of Transportation launched a campaign in August aimed at reducing the number of crashes involving running off the road. Such incidents were part of more than half of all fatal crashes from 2004 to 2008. The campaign recently completed the development of video public service announcements and an educational video, both available on the same DVD, that discuss preventative measures such as rumble strips, as well as how to recover when running off the road. Both of these video files can be seen online in the Foundation’s video vault. These materials were adapted for national appeal and can be used in any state.
