High-Risk Driver Press Conference

High-Risk Driver Press Conference

Peter Kissinger addresses media assembled at the
National Press Club.

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and AAA held a joint press conference on February 20, to draw attention to the problem of drinking and unlicensed drivers.

AAA Foundation President Peter Kissinger opened the session by describing the Foundation's interest in high-risk drivers and an overview of three Foundation reports completed on this subject over the past few months. Susan Pikrallidas, Vice President of AAA National, explained some of the legislative issues AAA wants to help address the problem. Jim Hedlund, author of the Foundation's "Drunk Driving: Seeking Additional Solutions" report, offered strategies and recommendations. (Link to his remarks.) Captain Jesse Bowman of the Fairfax County Police Traffic Safety Division, provided real-world examples and information about how drunk and unlicensed drivers affect safety. See video of the press conference (Real Player version 8 or later is needed.)
