International Conference on Aging, Disability and Independence December 4-6, 2003 in Washington, DC, the International Conference on Aging, Disability, and Independence will bring together individuals from around the world, including international researchers, practitioners, and business leaders, to discuss the growing needs to adjust the current standards and policies regarding seniors and the disabled. It is essential to transform the existing options for seniors and disabled individuals so that by 2030, when one in five Americans will be 65 years old or older, the country will not be faced with a crisis. While the conference covers a broad range of topics, there will be 17 sessions focusing on the transportation needs of the growing senior population. Primarily, these tracks will discuss the possibilities for designing more effective automobiles for frail individuals, driver licensing and assessment, injury prevention techniques, possibilities for enhancing transportation options, older driver safety issues, and ways to create more user-friendly designs for public transit.
